I have a cheap trekking backpack of Czech brand "Husky" which features some pretty frail buckles. Three of them got crushed already so I decided to create replacement buckles. Actually it'd make much more sense to print out better ones (+ better female counterparts of course) as I already know the original design is not very long-lasting, but I like to experiment a bit and have access to a 3D-scanner, so here's a 3D-scanned replacement. Also you can see on my pictures that I've printed it in upright position which I do not recommend. Obviously the forces in X/Y make snapping along the layers rather likely... but again this is an experiment. I managed to print this filament in a way that it breaks across the layers so the orientation shouldn't matter. In this case, one advantage of printing it upright is easy support removal. I've also uploaded a low-poly version in case your slicer struggles with the high polygon count. edit: There are some bigger buckles on the backpack too. I should have realized that before scanning (for better details because of the bigger object)... However, I now uploaded the resized buckles as well ("big" suffix). I didn't test them yet though. Also there's a new screenshot for a slicing suggestion if you'd like to test Z-strength. Print Settings Printer: Intamsys Funmat HT Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0,1 mm Infill: 100% Filament: Polymaker Polymide CoPa (Nylon 6,6) black Notes: This should be printed in a semi-flexible material like nylon. PETG or PC should be fine too. Don't forget to dry the nylon before printing and anneal the part afterwards and make sure to let it condition in humid air for a few days before using. Otherwise it will be brittle as PLA. edit: Uploaded a comparison of 3 buckles: nylon, original and greentech (from left to right). Greentech prints the best and support removal is a matter of seconds. However I'd expect the nylon buckle to last much longer. Yet, they both work as expected. editedit: The greentech part didn't last for more than a few test. It snapped mostly along the layers. Category: Sport & Outdoors
