The Oklahoma State Capitol houses Constance Whitney Warren's cowboy sculpture, which was the first artwork installed on its grounds. Known as a "bronze tribute to the romantic riders of the range," it symbolizes Oklahoma's history through a cowboy and his horse. The initial dedication ceremony took place on May 30, 1930, led by Governor William J. Holloway and Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Albert C. Hunt; however, Will Rogers' attendance was postponed. A $500 reward for the arrest of those who removed the tarpaulin covering the statue was issued by Governor Murray, except for Rogers, who joked about a cyclone being responsible. The sculpture was officially dedicated 27 years later by Governor Raymond Gary on November 14, 1957.
