Buck & Doe Pendant modded into Prom Tickets
thingiverse
To replicate our prom tickets' design, we first discovered a buck and doe pendant online and recreated it in Inkscape. Afterward, we utilized FreeCAD to extrude the design. The pendant pieces could be printed together using ABS filament, which easily snap apart after printing; alternatively, they can be printed separately in different colors without needing sanding. We initially planned to print the doe at 190°C and the buck at 230°C for contrasting wood darkness but found that the buck came out fatter. Consequently, we opted to sell the dark-colored bucks as singles. To ensure the pendant lay flat against the chest when hung by a chain, we soldered copper hoops at the top hole. We discovered that printing at scale 1 was too large, while 0.5 was too small; 0.81 (50% volume) was perfect. Our ideal slicing settings in Slic3r were 0.2 thickness, 4 perimeters, 25% fill, 6 top solid layers for a solid finish, and 4 bottom solid layers. Printing with Laywood-D3 filament provided an almost varnished finish on the bottom of the heated bed; thus, we started printing tickets upside-down to achieve this effect. Finally, we shared all our files for others to edit and use.
