A traditional Malay fishing method, bubu was constructed from bamboo and rattan rings as frames. This device, also known as a 'trap' or 'guiding barrier,' can be carried by hand or on the shoulder, depending on its size. Unattended, it functions in shallow waters near the sea, rivers, or ponds. The bubu works by having bait within its body and allowing fish to enter through a funnel but exit only via the bubu's door, trapping them inside.
