A traditional Malay fishing technique involving bamboo and rattan is the bubu, also known as a 'trap' or 'guiding barrier'. Bubu can be carried on hand or shoulder depending on size and works without attendance. Used by local fishermen near seas, rivers or shallow waters, it employs a one-way funnel path to attract fish into its body while the rattan door traps them.
