Bubble Magus NAC e5 Anti Splash \ Bubble Trap ( RSM 130D )
thingiverse
Everyone with an hang on back skimmer experiences the same issue - everything works perfectly until an electrical crash occurs, causing the skimmer to overflow when power returns. I've found myself cleaning up saltwater messes in my house more than once, so I had to come up with a solution. My fix is simple: run the skimmer with maximum flow all the time, keeping it very wet. This ensures effective skimming and prevents water levels from rising too high during power outages. However, if the valve is fully open, large bubbles splash everywhere in the back sump, causing salt to creep into the aquarium and beyond. To resolve this issue, I replaced the clogging sponge provided by Bubble Magus with a bubble trap and air outlet. This ingenious solution works flawlessly, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance. Designed specifically for the Bubble Magus NAC E5 output, this bubble trap can also be used on other 39mm diameter outputs. In my case, I use it in my Red Sea Max 130 D aquarium with excellent results. UPDATE: The original design has been working great, but I've created a longer version for skimmers with longer output diameters.
