It was part of the BT series of tanks, which were known for their speed and mobility. The "BT" stands for "Bystrokhodny Tank," which means "fast tank" in Russian. The BT-5 featured a distinctive sloped armor design and a 45 mm tank gun, which was effective against other tanks of its time. It was one of the first Soviet tanks to incorporate a fully rotating turret, a significant advancement in tank design.
