I fabricated a bench testing rig for brushless motors utilizing readily available materials: 16mm aluminum square tubing, 1/4" jig hardware, and rivets. It proved effective but was later enhanced through 3D printing. Available Files: These files are provided. Update: This design has been rendered obsolete by newer iterations. Using this version is not advisable due to potential motor meltage caused by heat transfer to plastic components. Instructions: Pending finalizing the component setup, the completed rig will utilize bearings and achieve a total cost under $30. For a scale model equivalent, visit Harbor Freight at approximately $13. Locating those compact quick disconnect fittings is currently beyond me; they are essential for this system's operation. Installing the propeller in tractor fashion toward the motor is standard procedure. However, maintaining distance from the area immediately in front of it while running remains a high-risk situation due to the hazard of shattering and subsequent projectile injury should catastrophic failure occur.
