A compact brushless DC motor, controllable by devices ranging from basic RC flip-flops to Arduinos, features in the "Learning in a Makerspace" chapter of the book "The Makerspace Workbench" by Maker Media. Craft parts on 1/8" plywood using a laser engraver then glue them together. The coils are made from 1/4-20 x 1/2" bolts wound with coated wire, and the armature consists of a short 1/8" aluminum rod and two donut magnets.
