Captain Bruno Mussolini, Benito's 23-year-old second son, took off on August 7, 1941, from an airfield near Pisa as he tested the prototype of a bomber plane. Unfortunately, the young officer failed to gain altitude and crashed into a house, resulting in his own death along with two crew members who were also killed in the incident. Five other crewmen were seriously injured in the crash.
