The remnants of a short stretch of railway track remain intact, seemingly built by Brunel to accommodate both standard and broad gauge trains. A turntable, now repurposed as a public seating area, sits on the Piazza Terracina at the old docks in Exeter, Devon, where the canal meets its end. Goods transported by ship could be unloaded directly onto the railcars and then transported to the mainline nearby. The canal served as a crucial route for larger vessels to access Exeter from the sea: however, it was largely rendered obsolete with the advent of the railways. A 3D model was created using 98 images taken with a smartphone camera.
