Brough Superior SS100

The Super Sports 100 is a motorcycle designed and built in Nottingham, England by George Brough in 1924. Every bike met specific customer needs - even handlebars were custom shaped. Sixty-nine SS100s rolled off the production line in 1925 at £170 or around £9,500 today. Brough called them the "Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles" after a magazine reviewer and later got permission from Rolls-Royce to use it. All bikes came with a guarantee that they could reach 100 mph. The SS100 (Super Sports) was the first custom motorcycle made by combining parts from many suppliers. Its engine, a twin-cam KTOR JAP V-twin, was made by J.A. Prestwich and used until 1936 when it was upgraded to a Matchless engine. Gearboxes were Sturmey-Archer's four-stud three-speed with chain drive. Brough adapted Harley-Davidson forks for his bikes, producing strong yet lightweight versions through the Castle Fork and Accessory Company that gave SS100s exceptional handling.
