Bronze Foot in the Form of a Sphinx at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
myminifactory
This bronze foot, shaped as a sphinx, was originally crafted in Greece approximately 600 BC. It was gifted by Howard J. Barnet's family in his memory, dating back to the year 2000. Between the eighth and sixth centuries BC, Greek artisans created elaborate bronze containers that were among their most outstanding achievements. This foot likely served as one of three supports for a massive, shallow basin. The sphinx here and the nearby griffin, also uploaded on Scan The World and MyMiniFactory, should be viewed as guardian figures rather than mere decorations. This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan The World is a non-profit initiative started by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and wish to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate.
