Bronze figurine of an Apis bull
sketchfab
Late Ptolemaic period, ca. 712-30 BCE, Egypt saw the creation of a magnificent bronze figurine of an Apis bull boasting an electrum inlay. The ancient Egyptians believed that the bull's virility mirrored the creative powers of Ptah, Memphis' chief god, and they searched extensively for a bullock with over two dozen unique characteristics to install it as the revered Apis bull associated with Ptah. When the chosen bull died, it was carefully mummified, adorned with precious jewels and powerful amulets, then honorably buried within the Serapeum, a sacred cemetery reserved exclusively for these remarkable animals.
