Bronze cube of gears scanned with 123D Catch
thingiverse
In my sculpture class last semester, I created a bronze cube with 3D printed gears and scanned it using 123D Catch. The university's Makerbot Replicator was used to print the scanned cube. My aim was to challenge 123D Catch with a complex object, and although the scan wasn't perfect, it exceeded my expectations in detail. I then used Meshmixer and netfabb Studio Basic to make the mesh manifold and 3D printable. The project includes the cleaned OBJ mesh exported from 123D Catch and the original .3DP file for remixing purposes. I printed a replica using white ABS on a Makerbot Replicator with 0.27mm layer height, 10% infill, and 1 shell.
