Culture: Roman. Material: Bronze. Accession No: HCA 622 Current Location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. This is a small bronze hollow-cast quadrilateral bell. The bell has a crown with a circular inner opening and irregular angular outer edge. The shoulder gently curves into four sides. The lip opening is squared with a larger fragment missing on one side. On the opposing side in the same location is a small circular hole. Small quadrilateral bells were made throughout the Roman world using the cire-perdue process. They had a variety of functions including hanging on windchimes to bring good luck to families. More.
