I've worked with broccoli models in various formats before. The low poly model I have is 16mb and comes in OBJ format, while the high poly model is a whopping 127mb also in OBJ format. It was created by scanning and remashing a high detail cauliflower from Taiwan, which they call broccoli. To apply any textures or other details, Modo13 or Maya2018 would be good tools to use. A smooth mesh is definitely recommended for this particular model.
