Brittle Stars, a type of Echinoderm, thrive in Southern California kelp forests and can often be found on beaches attached to kelp plants. I recently designed a 3D model of Brittle Stars using SketchUp and was pleased with the outcome; it was a valuable learning experience. Skeining initially presented errors, but Netfabb Studio repaired the .stl file before re-saving it from SketchUp. The model was printed on an Ender 3 printer with a 140x140 bed, and its size is perfect for resembling real Brittle Stars. After creating Snakes models, I developed the idea to create this Brittle Star design. Early prototypes can be seen in the pictures. The model fits well into a small Ziploc bag as a gift for someone without a 3D printer. Its legs allow movement and can be heated and shaped as desired. To assemble, place the legs upside down inside the body for the best fit from the Ender 3 print. Animate if desired, and enjoy your Brittle Star model!
