British 'M' Mk I sea mine
sketchfab
According to the sign, this magnetic naval mine appears to be authentic. It lacks the characteristic Hertz 'horns' typically found on contact mines erected along coastlines as memorials or donation boxes. These mines feature an internal induction coil that detects the magnetic field of a ship, completing a circuit and triggering detonation. I have provisionally identified it as an 'M' Mark I mine based on its circumference (40 inches) and fittings, although many British naval mines from World War II shared similar components. If anyone can confirm or dispute this identification, please share your knowledge. This mine is situated at the picnic area near South Landing, close to Flamborough Head, along the East Yorkshire coastline. 121 photographs were taken with a Huawei P30 in February 2020.
