British Bren LMG and Boys ATR (28mm scale)
thingiverse
I was searching for a suitable model to try printing accessory vehicle weaponry for 28mm AFVs. Commercial ones are made of white metal and often arrive bent beyond recognition or have fragile plastic parts that snap easily, even with careful handling. A Bren gun barrel in real life measures about 1.5 inches across, which translates to just over 1 mm in 1/56th scale, making the plastic weapons from Warlord sprues prone to snapping. So I started with Zeta-Guns' file, thickened it and added a magazine and barrel flare at the end of Bren's barrel. The same model was used to create the Boys ATR; however, I made the magazine angular and the barrel longer. Please note that these models are not proportionally accurate, but another player can still recognize them as accessories - "oh, you've got a pintle Bren on that carrier" or notice the Boys ATR poking out of the front glacis plate of your universal carrier. This is much better than saying "Oh that carrier is shooting at you; you can't see it carries two bren guns." The "Fog of War" defense may not work in the post-game debrief. I created both the Bren gun and Boys ATR as standalone models - ideal for poking out the front of your carrier (or the Dingo Armoured Car I loaded a picture of). Additionally, I made a pintle mount for attaching to LRDG trucks, jeeps or similar vehicles. *** NOTES on printing: please use both a brim and a raft; and use a very fine setting; these are tiny pieces and they will get messed up without a secure base on the build plate. If loading several onto one build, leave space between them; I found out the hard way in the initial test print.***
