The Bristol Mercury engine is a nine-cylinder, air-cooled, single-row piston radial unit. Designed by Roy Fedden at the Bristol Aeroplane Company, it powered diverse civil and military aircraft during the 1930s and '40s. An evolution of the Jupiter engine, later versions yielded 800 horsepower (600kW) from a 1,500 cubic inches (25L) capacity through use of a geared supercharger. (same photo as reference)
