The Beaufighter, equipped with a dummy engine and detailed features, housed an observer's .303 Browning machine gun. Serving from 1939 to 1960 in various countries such as UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Poland, USA, New Zealand, Portugal, Israel, Turkey, and the Dominican Republic, a total of 5,928 were produced in Britain and Australia. The aircraft measured 41 ft 4 in (12.6 m) in length, had a wingspan of 57 ft 10 in (17.65 m), and stood at 15 ft 10 in (4.84 m) in height. It was powered by two Bristol Hercules 14-cylinder radial engines, each producing 1,600 hp (1,200 kW). As the world's most heavily armed fighter aircraft, it was equipped with 4 x 20 mm Hispano Mk II cannon under the nose and 6 x .303 in (7.7 mm) Browning machine guns in the wings, with some variants also featuring a manually operated observer's .303 in (7.7 mm) Browning. The aircraft could carry external loads of 2 x 250 lb bombs or 1 x British/US torpedo or 8 x RP-3 60 lb (27 kg) rockets under the wings.
