Brio Train wash (roll-holder only, thinner-version)
prusaprinters

Since I had spare paint roller that are 5cm long, I wanted to use them for this brio acessory. However, the diameter of the inner tuber was too small. Also, these rollers already contain a mechanism so that they can be fit tight onto a handle but still turn freely. It's a paint roller after all. :)

So I remixed the design of the roller holder of this thing so that the holder have a smaller diameter.

Post-Printing

Supports?

My cura profile sucks as I am new to 3d printing. So that the roller holder doesn't break (its only half the diameter than the original version), I printed my remix in high detail settings with 0.1mm layer thickness and about 50% infill. However, the supports were almost impossible to get rid of.
No matter if you print the original or my remix, be sure you know how the roller holder looks like before you try removing the supports. Otherwise you could easily break important parts apart...

How I Designed This

I used Blender to remix this thing. To remove the original holder, I put a cube over the cylinder, added a boolean modifier to calculate the difference and removed the cube again. This way I got rid of the cylinder and could design a new one with only 6mm in diametera and 50mm high. As a nice visual feature, I added another cylinder with a smaller top diameter on top of it. Now it looks pretty much like my original paint roller holder.

Wishes

Personally, I don't like the way the holder are secured in place, as the model only has holes on both sides and you are supposed to use a screw and a nut. I would prefer both the screw and the corresponding nut to be countersinked (is that the correct wording) so that they dont project over the model.

Also, the rubber band can easily drop and get lost. An enclosure or a simple attached bottom plate would be great. Maybe I am able to further improve this model, even better, if someone could give it a try who is more used to work with the respective tools than I am now. :)
Category: Toy & Game Accessories
