DescriptionThis model of brig, schooner or barquetine, goletta in italian, is a scale reproduction of a typical commercial mediterranean ship as built and operational in the first half ot 1900. This brig was built in 1920. Many of these vessels, originally sail powered, were converted to engine and sail around 1940-1950. The original hull was in heavy wood, painted in white with a blue fascia, so as the Model. Anyway, to give the drawing a more attractive appearence and a wider utilization I added a second alternative Hull fully made with riveted steel plates. To pass from Wood Hull to Steel Hull, please open the HULL-Collection and, both for viewport and render, activate fd-Hull RIVETED PLATES object and deactivate fd-Hull WOOD PLANKS, and viceversa. The main difference within barquetine and oceanic clippers was their easier sailing plan that required a smaller crew to be manned. The 3d drawing is faithfully based on the original blueprints collected in the italian Museum Marinaro Tommasino Andreatta of Chiavari (Genoa); the blueprints can also be found in internet in TheModelshipwright site. Main dimensions are: Length within verticals: 35.83m Width out of hull: 8.60m Height up to deck: 4.5m Metric tons: 392 The drawing has been developed using Blender 2.92 and rendered with EVEE. No problem nor difference, exept a better lighting but a longer rendering time, if you use Cycles instead. The drawing file is sufficiently small: textures are 5 Mb only while blender file is 38Mb, but 7 only in its compressed form. Nodes have been largely used for textures and PBR too, although Bump only was really necessary due to the large scale of the drawing. All objects and materials are individually named in English and separated in meaning Collections. Quad polygons have been preferred, but if, eventually, some higher corner polygon is present it is not relevant with the result. Some textures has been taken from cgtexture commercial site and are of free use, other are CC0 or made by me. For your knowledge the story of this ship says that her first name was Fidente, meaning Trusting in English; she was built basing on a 1920 design and was one of the last big ships fully made in wood in Italy. She was launched in June 14, 1922; after a long period of commercial navigation the name was changed to Basilio to be changed again to Giuseppina in 1938. In the early 1942 she was seized by the Royal Italian Navy, that added a diesel engine, in order to supply italian troops in Lybia. Just two months later, during a trip from Tripoli to Tunis, she was attacked by english ships and sunk after a big fire on board 15 mile south of the buoy of Kerkenna (Tunisia). A simple landscape with rough 3dimensional sea and a front view of Venice is supplied within the Model. The top flag is the one of Genoa, the italian region where the ship has been built.schoonersailboatshipwoodvesselbrigantinebrigbarquetinegolettamediterraneannavyitalianrivetedsteelhullcommercialmilitaryboatwatercrafthistorichistoric watercraftmilitary watercraftboat hullnavy shipship hull
