Bridge Hammock Clip
thingiverse
I created this compact bracket to hold a fiberglass rod that serves as an arch support for the bug mesh on my custom bridge hammock, much like a tent pole on any standard dome tent but smaller and lighter in design. Bridge hammocks function distinctively from end-gathered hammocks; if you're a curious hiker, it's worth doing some research online to understand the differences. This bracket was designed to attach securely to a .625 spreader pole and fits snugly into place. I use this clip with the poles and titanium bridge clips that I purchased from dutchwaregear.com. Dutch offers an impressive array of lightweight gear for backpacking and hammock suspension, making it a valuable resource for DIY enthusiasts like myself who enjoy taking on projects. For optimal results, use a filament like ABS or nylon that is robust and can withstand heat better than PLA. I printed this without support and my Prusa handled the overhang remarkably well. The socket for the fiberglass rod is inverted in its native orientation, resulting in some minor distortion on the part. However, this was purely cosmetic and I simply dressed up the socket hole with a small drill bit. The part functions flawlessly as designed. I also anticipated that the fiberglass rod, when bent into position, would shift the clips on the poles, so I incorporated a recess and guide into the clip design. You should thread some twine through this guide (mine is the yellow twine in the pictures above) to ensure the clips are installed at the same distance apart each time you set up camp. This will guarantee that your arches remain consistent in shape and provide a better fit for the bug mesh.
