Bridge and Overhang Mashup

Bridge and Overhang Mashup

This is a test print and demo showcasing the limitations that arise from unsupported overhangs and bridges. Students can use this as a demonstration to understand the constraints of FDM printing and design. This is a remix of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:40382 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2593077 Print one without supports to visualize what happens when overhangs exceed 45 degrees. Then, print a second with supports extending from the build plate to illustrate the difference supports can make. Be sure to highlight that supports will leave a rough surface, increase production time and material costs. If you have a dual extruder, demonstrate how water-soluble supports work by orienting the overhang side towards your printer's cooling fans for optimal results. I combined these two models in TinkerCAD.
