Brickwall Diorama Planter

Brickwall Diorama Planter

I needed a custom planter for my desert rose (adenium obesum) so I started designing something from scratch. Before long, things got completely out of control... This is a miniature diorama of an abandoned, dimly lit corner of a forgotten street. Some viewers might recognize John Carpenter's movie "They Live" which inspired the billboards. If you're not fond of them, simply remove the billboards - they're entirely optional. The street lamp actually works. Inside it's a golden 5mm LED connected in parallel to a 1.5F goldcap capacitor. It can be powered by a 5V smartphone powerbank through the micro USB connector on the backside. I added a 100 Ohm resistor (in series with the LED) to protect the LED from overcharging. After a 10-second charge, the LED stays lit for approximately 15 minutes. The lamp, posts, billboards, manhole cover, and glass are all printed at a layer height of 0.1mm. For optimal results, I recommend printing the rest of the pieces at 0.2mm. Give everything a used and grimy look by drybrushing with dark colors. The planter, posts, and lamp require support during printing.
