Brickwall Diorama Planter
myminifactory
I desperately needed a planter that would complement my desert rose (adenium obesum), so I took matters into my own hands and started designing something from scratch. What began as a simple idea quickly spiraled out of control... This is a miniature diorama of a long-forgotten, dimly lit alleyway on a deserted street. Some might recall John Carpenter's cult classic film "They Live," which inspired the eerie billboards scattered throughout the scene. Feel free to leave them behind if they don't strike your fancy - after all, they're optional. The streetlamp is fully functional and adds an extra layer of realism to the entire setup. Inside the lamp lies a gleaming golden 5mm LED, carefully wired in parallel with a 1.5F goldcap capacitor. This ingenious setup can be recharged using a 5V smartphone power bank, which is conveniently connected via a micro USB port located on the backside. To prevent any damage to the delicate LED, I added a 100 Ohm resistor in series - a precaution that ensures a prolonged lifespan for this tiny but vital component. With just a 10-second charge, the LED will shine brightly for approximately 15 minutes, casting an otherworldly glow over the entire scene. The lamp, posts, billboards, manhole cover, and glass all boast a stunning level of detail, achieved through precise printing at a layer height of 0.1mm. For optimal results, I recommend upping this to 0.2mm for the remaining components. To give your diorama that authentic, battle-worn look, be sure to drybrush all surfaces with dark colors. The planter, lamp posts, and streetlamp will require support to prevent them from toppling over - a small price to pay for such an incredible level of realism.
