Cristaleras Asturianas, S.A., with its history dating back to 1910 when it was opened to manufacture glass and crystal in flat, hollow, folded, and pressed varieties, plus furnaces for reheating and tempering, workshops for grinding, polishing, and carving. After years of operation, in 1947 it became the anonymous society CRISTASA. Five years later it was acquired by Gijón shipowner Nicanor Noval Hevia, but by 1970 it ceased operations. Once its activities were completed, its properties passed into public ownership with the Ayuntamiento de Gijón, which in 1989 decided to allocate a portion of the remaining installations still standing for hosting a nursery of companies, where eventually over a dozen of them settled down.
