A Block is a brick-shaped unit that has appeared in nearly every Super Mario game up until now. As its name clearly indicates, Blocks made of bricks are essentially what they are.\nIn most Super Mario games since the initial Super Mario Bros., only Mario or another form of Mario, such as Fire Mario or Cape Mario, can break this block. Blocks made of bricks can be broken in multiple ways (usually by jumping into them from below); they reward players with ten points (fifty in the original Super Mario Bros.). If Small Mario hits a brick-shaped unit, it merely bounces up slightly. Nevertheless, if these blocks contain an item, they function just like ? Blocks, as the item pops out and the block transforms into an Empty Block. Regardless, any enemies walking on the block will be injured. In Super Mario Bros. and the New Super Mario Bros. series, the colors of brick-shaped units change to match those of their surroundings (blue while underground, gray/white in castles, red in volcanic regions, etc.).
