Breville BCG450 Coffee Grinder Lid Repair Hing

The Coffee Grinder Bin Lids break at the hinge and repair with glue doesn't seem that durable. Certainly printing a new lid is an option but it just replicates the designs weak point and the 3D prints z-axis strength adds a further limitation. Another option is a quick print of a bolstered hinge for repairing the lid. To use it one needs to cut a relief in the bin to allow the thickened latch. The latch is then glued into place with a suitable glue and it has far more surface area to allow a stronger connection. Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: TAZ 5 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .25 mm layer height with 0.6 mm nozzle Infill: 100% Filament: Polymaker PC Notes: You need to have calibrated your horizontal expansion in order to get a workable part. This is a very fast print < 1 minute. For a 0.6 mm nozzle and 0.25 mm layer height -0.18 mm horizontal expansion was used. (first layer -0.25mm) Post-Printing ============= Even with good horizontal expansion settings you will need to do some trimming of the part and possibly clean out the hole with a 3mm or 1/8" drill bit. Note that there is an orientation to the hinge - the "square" side goes against the underside of the lid. You will need to patiently cut a clearance notch for the bolstered part of the hinge in the bin itself. Do so slowly until the hinge lays flat. Use whatever glue you have - I used UV activated glue such as Bondic since it allows for good control of the glue (to avoid getting in the pivot) and adjustment until you shine the UV LED. Unfortunately it cures yellow which can be seen in the result. Category: Kitchen & Dining
