The Breitspurbahn was a massive 9 ft 10 1/8 in broad-gauge railway system that Adolf Hitler envisioned during the Nazi regime in Germany, designed to connect major cities across Grossdeutschland, his expanded German empire, and neighboring countries with ease. Industry partners submitted 41 distinct locomotive designs, ranging from traditional steam engines to cutting-edge gas turbine-electric and diesel-hydraulic models. Some of these designs featured as few as 12 axles while others boasted a staggering 52 axles, showcasing the incredible diversity of possibilities. Locomotives were proposed with power outputs ranging from 15,300 to 24,700 horsepower, making them capable of hauling massive loads across the network. All locomotives would come equipped with advanced automatic couplers, including Janney and SA3 designs, ensuring seamless connections and efficient transportation.
