Breathing mask - functional (work in progress)
thingiverse
I have designed a breathing mask for use in a home workshop. The mask is not intended for toxic jobs or hazardous environments. Instead, I plan to use it for everyday tasks like spray painting while operating a disk sander or grinder when working with wood. It features two interchangeable hose filters that are easy to remove and clean. The mask includes a valve above the nose that allows air to exit but not enter, forcing fresh air in through side holes. The bayonet connectors have been modified from their original design to ensure a proper fit. Adding rubber to these connectors has improved the seal significantly. If there are any gaps in the joints or between the filters and mask, thermal glue can be used to seal them. To ensure a tight seal around the nose area, I've added a small strip of foam inside the mask. The filters can also be oriented differently for optimal performance. I've designed the system so that it's easy to remove the filters if needed or to use just one filter at a time. This flexibility is a great feature. To further improve my design, I plan to test cutting a protective mask and using baby wipes between coats of paint to reduce odors. The current setup includes five layers in each filter, essentially creating a multi-layered filtration system. I've also added foam pieces with strong adhesive to the back, which can be melted together for an even stronger seal. The mask seems to be well-sealed against my face when worn, and applying some pressure on the gums should provide a secure fit for its intended purpose. My next step is to find a suitable valve to complete the design. I want to emphasize that this design is shared for educational purposes only, and I do not intend for it to be used commercially.
