Breakaway Lanyard Clasp
youmagine
This is a straightforward clasp for Paracord designed to release under pressure, preventing strangulation if the lanyard gets grabbed or snags. Specifically crafted for Lifeguard whistles, this design was created with openscad and offers full parameterization. This means it's easy to modify dimensions and create your own custom design. The included STL is as compact as possible without compromising printability and assembly. A logo can also be added to the slider. Assembly is a breeze. Cut a length of paracord (550 cord), approximately 36 inches (90 cm) works for me. Prepare the ends by lightly singeing them. Thread through the optional slider, then attach one clasp end to each cord end with the joint facing outward and slide it on far enough to avoid heat as you further melt the end. Don't tie knots at the ends; instead, melt them into a small mushroom shape. Now pull the mushroom into the clasp to secure it. The clasp ends may be difficult to push together depending on your 3D printer settings. Pull on the cord to release the clasp. It should release with a satisfying pop. If the cord comes out of the clasp, you'll need to melt it a bit more.
