This bowl-shaped basket boasts a unique design derived from the heat-forming principle of plexi glass. I employed this technique in various designs, such as the Waveguide Bedside Reading Lamp and the Toilet Roll Holder „Clear and Clean“. Simply place the part in an oven and heat it to 170°C; the duration depends on the material thickness, with approximately one minute required per millimeter. Keep in mind that the entire sheet becomes soft during this process, making sharp bends more achievable with a heat gun. In the case of this bread basket, its curved petals were the desired effect, saving me from burns by using oven gloves. A groove was added to the base for easier flat-spotting. Cutting plexi glass is not a straightforward task; it requires a rigid CNC machine capable of speeds exceeding 3 meters per minute. The cutting depth must be shallow, around 0.5 mm, to avoid melting and clogging the cutter. Use a single-flute end mill with a diameter of at least 4 mm for precise cuts. When utilizing a dust collector, ensure all parts are grounded to prevent static discharge issues. Visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/ for more captivating designs. Please note that no STL file will be available for this design due to its flat nature intended for bending. However, you can use a laser cutter with some creative thinking to create the necessary groove in the bottom.
