Brand's Nut & Bolt
thingiverse
This is a memorial model for Brand Shovlar, young geek and Warhammer fan, who sadly was taken from us far too early. This took a lot longer than I'd hoped. The IP of my current build, Project Fall, doesn't lend itself particularly well to Brand's Sigil, so I had quite a think about how to incorporate it. It wouldn't fit too well as a front and centre piece, as it does with the Marines. I could put it somewhere hidden, as I did with Pyrrha, but that felt like cheating, and I want to show off my affiliation with the Company, and our Boy. I also want Fall to be the most screen accurate one I've built yet, so changing the design is out. I thought about subtle ways to incorporate it. Perhaps some LED display somewhere? Or maybe some nose art/ decal thing? Honestly, I felt those would be too subtle. But how about all those bolts and screws in this build, I thought. And then went to modelling. And then realised my FDM printer couldn't handle the detail, so I had to wait for access to a resin printer. So now, He will hold together Project Fall, in a more literal sense than the figurative one He already did by, in a way, telling me "Nope" whenever I think "Eh, good enough" and try to half-arse something. I printed this on a Longer Orange 30 with Elegoo Grey resin. If you scale it up sufficiently, I suspect it would work on an FDM printer as well. The nut is mostly there so that I can poke a hole in foam, stick the bolt through and secure it, beyond just using glue. A safeguard, if you will. Hence, I didn't take too much care about making it elaborate.
