http://www.bran-castle.com/ The Bran Castle is a medieval fortress located in modern-day Romania, which enjoys significant tourist appeal due to the popular belief that it was the ancient residence of Vlad Țepeș the Impaler. Situated near Brașov in Transylvania, it is a national monument and one of the key points of Romanian tourism for its antiquity, architectural value, and connection with the fictional character Count Dracula. It is argued that the historical figure who inspired Stoker's character, Vlad Țepeș (Vlad III Drăculea), never lived in this castle and that his actual fortress was Poenari Castle, which is partially ruined today. Despite its imposing and fortified appearance, Bran Castle received few sieges and its military importance was minimal. It was only permanently inhabited during the 1920s and 1930s when it served as a summer residence for Queen Marie of Romania.
