This is an addition to my Universal Spool Holder. As pointed out by Jaecko in a comment here, the holder operates so smoothly that the spool unwinds slightly when the extruder pulls at the filament. I experienced this same issue and even had a few print failures due to it, so I designed a "brake" to resolve the problem. Part one is permanently attached to the printer, while the rest is removable. I uploaded two versions of part two: Part2.stl for the original Vertex, and Part2evo.stl for VertexEvo with 3mm thick aluminum reinforcement bars. Part three is designed to fit eSun and Shaxon 1kg filament spools. If you're using spools of different widths, simply resize part three. I've included a Part3.sat file for reference. To ensure proper function, attach a strip of rubber to the areas of part three that come into contact with the spool. Assembly requires three M3 x 12mm and one M3 x 16mm screws. Two M8 x 25mm screws and two M8 self-locking nuts serve as ballast. If you prefer to use different ballast, redesign part five; I've included a Part5.sat file for your reference. The weight of the ballast should be approximately 50 grams. To attach part one to the side panel, replace the existing M5 screws with longer ones. With my VertexEvo, I used M5 x 25mm screws, while the original Vertex may require M5 x 20mm screws.
