Brain Slice Holder
thingiverse
This is a custom-designed holder for incubating fresh brain sections in circulating artificial cerebrospinal fluid. The central channel accommodates a bubbler, with a built-in stopper at the bottom to ensure bubbles rise through the main channel exclusively. It is tailored to fit securely inside a 200mL beaker, leaving ample space for modifications due to its tapered wings. This innovative holder features six separate compartments, one of which has an indentation to facilitate the organization of slices. Each compartment should be spacious enough to hold a horizontal section from a rat weighing approximately 300 grams or two to three horizontal sections from a mouse. Although I am highly satisfied with this third iteration and it functions flawlessly for me, I plan to eventually redesign a similar model printed in two separate parts that can be joined together using narrow rod magnets. This will enable the nylon mesh to be easily replaced whenever it becomes damaged. The accompanying Solidworks file allows you to make parametric modifications if desired.
