Humanoid Brain Bugs (formerly Horrible Brain Spiders) attack during the night with bulging eyes and a long proboscis sucking up brain tissue from unsuspecting humans who suffer through their presence without a cure in sight. Foraging and nesting on human scalps, these bugs thrive under most circumstances despite treatment attempts with conventional medicine. A fatal outcome typically unfolds within a week, with all but one bug succumbing to the victim's deteriorating health. Suddenly taking control of the host's central nervous system, this single survivor turns the once-willing human into an obedient zombie until it too is neutralized through decapitation. I was experimenting with rapid sculpting and painting techniques in Blender during a solo marathon session focusing on intricate details and advanced topographic modeling options introduced by Dynatopo technology that revolutionizes traditional sculpting processes. My subject - humanoid brain bugs with two unique skin tones: a greenish-golden hue, evoking decay, and an eerie yellow-green appearance of diseased tissue. The initial model was created entirely within Blender in real-time using dynamic topology features that adapt mesh resolution seamlessly during the sculpting process. Once complete, I proceeded to paint the print with acrylics to further enhance its realistic appeal and tactile sensation reminiscent of soft human skin, though now eerily macabre. Using a high-precision printer like Formlabs', which employs proprietary transparent resin capable of producing intricate prints that capture minute details. After successfully creating these eerie artifacts, I then meticulously detach them from the printing supports essential to this multi-step process involving extensive post-print manual labor, as I discovered through experience. The resulting miniature print showcased captivating translucent characteristics and organic textures now accentuated by hand-applied pigments - both strikingly unsettling yet undeniably intriguing as miniature replicas of these grotesque, cerebral parasites.
