Johannes Brahms lived from May 7, 1833 to April 3, 1897, and he was a famous German musician known for composing classical music during the Romantic period. Born into a family of Lutherans in Hamburg, he spent much of his life working professionally in Vienna, Austria. His music reputation was so strong that many people grouped him with Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven as one of the Three B's of music. Brahms composed songs for a wide range of musical groups, including orchestras, chamber ensembles, pianos, organs, and voices singing with choirs. As an exceptional piano player, he often played his own music live at premieres. He collaborated with many leading musicians during his time.
