This ancient Brahma sculpture originated in Cambodia's Battambang province, crafted from sandstone in the distinctive Koh Ker style during the mid 10th century at Vat Baset. A dedicated volunteer carefully scanned it using around 50 photographs. Brahmā is the Hindu deity of creation and one of the Trimurti, with Vishnu and Shiva being the other two gods. According to the Brahma Purana, he is Manu's father, and from Manu all human beings are descended. In the Ramayana and Mahabharata, he is frequently referred to as the progenitor or great grandsire of all human beings. He should not be confused with the Supreme Cosmic Spirit in Hindu Vedānta philosophy known as Brahman, which is genderless. Brahmā's wife is Saraswati, also known by names such as Sāvitri and Gayatri, who has taken various forms throughout history. Brahmā is often identified with Prajapati, a Vedic deity. As the husband of Saraswati or Vaac Devi (the Goddess of Speech), Brahma is also known as "Vaagish," meaning "Lord of Speech and Sound." This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for public access. Scan the World is an open source, community effort. If you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
