The Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth is identified as Bradypus variegatus. This species was named by Schinz in 1825. The individual in question is referred to as peresós de coll fosc or perezoso de garganta parda, which translates to sloth with a dark throat. It has been catalogued under the number MZB 96-0143. A mandible was extracted from this specimen. Its size measures 23.4 mm in height, 27.5 mm in width, and 41.8 mm in depth. This individual was acquired by the Barcelona Zoo in Spain on January 21st, 1996.
