Bracken Heads4 (Nov 2006)
sketchfab
Scheduled prehistoric carved boulder unearthed at Bracken Heads, Langleydale Common, County Durham's Eggleston area. Paul Brown first spotted it in 1996, and the county's Historic Environment Record connects this ancient rock to number '5' in Beckensall & Laurie's book on "Prehistoric Rock of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale", published in 1998. NADRAP partially documented the stone, listing it as 'Brackenheads 5' on their ERA database in 2008. The archives reveal one or two cups; does the higher cup feature a faint ring? ERA info is available at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2022, while Historic England scheduling details can be found at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1021114. A 3D model was created from five stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson and Keith Elliott of NADRAP Team 3 in November 2006. The imagery forms part of the full NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England.
