Bracken Heads N03 (Aug 2005)

This boulder sits on private farmland inside the scheduled area of Bracken Heads, Langleydale Common, southeast of Eggleston, County Durham. If carved, this appears to be a new discovery made by the NADRAP team during their 2005 surveys. The team recorded 'Brackenheads N03' on ERA and noted: 'Tall stone in a cairnfield with other marked rocks nearby. The very straight edge to the rock may have resulted from quarrying. There's a possibility that formation was due to natural erosion - but position in cairnfield supports the rock art association.' The case for natural formation seems particularly strong.
