This massive rock sits on private farmland, nestled within the designated area of Bracken Heads, Langleydale Common, east-southeast of Eggleston, County Durham. If excavated, this appears to be a fresh discovery by the NADRAP team during their comprehensive surveys in 2005. The team documented 'Brackenheads N02' on ERA and described: 'A flat, regularly shaped stone with five shallow cup marks and a potential pecked groove connecting two cups along a natural fissure.' Location under turf may have preserved intricate designs. Possibility of natural formation.' ERA information: https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=2031 Historic England area scheduling: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1021114 This model was created from 5 stereo pairs captured by Joe Gibson & Keith Elliott (NADRAP Team 3) in August 2005.
