With these custom brackets, stability of Prusa i3 Hephestos' frame is enhanced and so is printing. Additionally, due to greater height of brackets, print can now reach a maximum height of 12cm over the original height. Instructions: You need: - 2 threaded rods M10 - 48cm - 1 threaded rod M6 - 39cm - 2 threaded rod M5 - 36cm - 2 steel bars diameter 8mm - 38cm - 8 M10 nuts with washers 20mm - 8 M6 nuts with 8 washers 12mm - 4 screws M3 x 15mm flat head - 2 screws M3 x 20 flat head with two M3 nuts - 2 ball bearings 10x5x5 - A ruler rule - A bracket rule Print the parts at a setting of four perimeters and an infill rate of thirty percent. I utilized layers of 0.2mm, yet you can change this value according to your requirements. Search for ideal printing parameters for enhanced piece strength. Assembly: Remove original upper Z brackets, swap M5 screw and 8mm Z axes with longer ones Remove front part of Prusa where Y belt-tensioning resides by unscrewing two front M10 nuts Enter two supports in threaded rods (L_supp.stl / R_supp.stl) Reassemble printer by tightening the nuts while ensuring horizontal alignment of pieces With M3x20 screws and two M3 nuts, install display on left bracket Secure brackets to original holes but at the back of frame with M3x15 screws, refer photos Insert M6 bar in new bracket seat ensuring presence of both nuts and washers inside; secure outer washers loosely Thread rods M10 into cross-holes while verifying entry of two nuts and washers in each bar Using ruler rule, set M6 nuts to ensure Z axes' perfect alignment and perpendicularity to the printing plane Insert bearings and then slide M5 threaded rods for Z-axis movement With aid of a bracket rule, secure M10 cross-nuts for frame alignment. Firmware modification for enhanced printing height: If additional data from brackets is required, adjust firmware. Note that firmware modifications necessitate basic knowledge! Download Prusa i3 Hephestos firmware; download latest version of Marlin_Hephestos from http://reprap.org/wiki/File:Marlin_Hephestos.zip Consult wiki section at http://reprap.org/wiki/Prusa_i3_Hephestos#Firmware Get Arduino IDE from www.arduino.cc and any necessary serial drivers Open configuration.h in text reader or notepad Locate the line "#define Z_MAX_POS" Change it to "#define Z_MAX_POS 240" but only after a test for adjusting optimal Z axes height Save file and restart editor Turn printer on, connect it via USB Double click marlin.ino; then choose Arduino Mega 2560 or Mega ATK under "Tools">Arduino type, select the correct COM port in Arduino IDE Upload the sketch. Enjoy printing!
