Boxford Lathe 127 135 Metric to English Changewheel - A Major Challenge. Achieving a Dead Vertical Z-Axis is Crucial. I've faced this exact problem with my printed bore initially, but it ended in disaster due to a tiny deviation from perfect verticality. I redesigned the entire setup and discovered that opening up the bore to 30mm made all the difference. Next, I inserted a brass plug into the bore and attached it to the faceplate of the lathe using glue. Then, I precision-bored the brass bush in the plastic gear to ensure a true plum bore - no wobble or deviation allowed. When printing with PLA, I use a 3mm wall thickness and a 20% infill rate for added strength. The PLA material also offers excellent durability and resistance to deformation under stress. By placing the spokes strategically around the perimeter of the gear, I've ensured that any splitting will occur between the two gears, which is where the forces are concentrated. Since the middle section isn't driven by the motor, it's not a critical area and can be optimized for minimal weight while maintaining structural integrity.
