Boxer engines, invented by Karl Benz, are commonly used in vehicles like cars and light aircraft due to their low center of gravity enabling high-speed cornering. Unique to four-stroke cycles, boxers maintain balance regardless of cylinder numbers on both banks, eliminating the need for counterweights or balance shafts. However, engines with under six cylinders experience unavoidable unbalanced moments due to misaligned opposite cylinders. Notably, Subaru is a major manufacturer of boxer engines, using them across its car lineup; they differ from V6 180-degree configurations and are quite challenging to construct.
