Box with Hexagonal Holes

Box with Hexagonal Holes

thingiverse

The hexagonal patterned Parametric Decorated Box is derived from Thing:21358. It's a space-efficient design, as holes are cut into the model, reducing plastic waste and minimizing shavings. Netfabb Studio reports that this design, including lid, has a volume of 16.5 cubic centimeters - a 30% reduction in material compared to a solid box with a similar volume of 24.5 cubic centimeters. The attractive hexagonal pattern resembles wire mesh pad and pencil holders from office supply stores. Three STL files are provided: 'box_with_holes_05.stl' (featuring holes on all five sides), 'box_with_holes_04.stl' (a box with a solid bottom and holes on four sides) and 'lid_with_holes.stl' (the lid with holes). Additionally, two SCAD files are included: 'box_with_holes.scad', which creates both boxes, and 'lid_with_holes.scad', responsible for the lid's formation. The openSCAD software was used to create forms from three-dimensional hexagons arranged in a larger hexagonal array, resulting in an unsubtracted material with a graphite-like structure similar to Thing:13672. To achieve the best finish for the box and lid, construct them directly on the build surface. After cooling, carefully remove them from the surface. Decorative lids from Thing:21358 will fit this box design perfectly.
